A Simple Moment

My first experience of true southern humidity last summer while visiting with my son and his family. Joined them on a quick trip to the North Carolina shore. Summer heatwave. Coastal humidity.

An Arizona girl who lives in desert heat. Desert humidity. I’m used to heat. I am not used to humidity. “It’s a dry heat” took on new meaning.

95 degrees with 98% humidity, just a block from the beach. Walk outside from an air-conditioned room with my son and grandson. Take about five steps and can’t see through my sunglasses because they have steamed up. Hmmm…

Take a few photos while walking over to the beach not realizing the filter on my camera lens has also steamed up because I’m still not seeing clearly through my sunglasses. Really bummed when I realized it.

Reach the ocean breeze near the water, my sunglasses and camera lens clear up, and I proceed to use my camera again.

Going through the photos later, I smile as I discover a favorite photo.  Taken during the walk to the beach, the moisture on the lens did not ruin the photo, it gave it a “soft focus” effect.

A simple moment of a father with his son.
